Where the market is right now
Alberta does not yet have an open, regulated online poker market. PlayAlberta.ca, run by AGLC through NeoPollard, is the only province-operated online gambling site, and it does not currently run a regular freeroll schedule for poker. The six private operators expected to launch in Alberta (GGPoker, PokerStars, BetMGM Poker, 888poker, partypoker, and bwin) cannot legally offer real-money games or freerolls in the province until they are AGLC-registered.
What freerolls usually look like once a market is live
In Ontario and on .com, the freeroll schedule across these operators typically includes:
- Welcome freerolls for newly registered players, awarding small cash or tournament tickets.
- Daily depositor freerolls open to anyone who has made a deposit in the previous seven days.
- Loyalty freerolls tied to rewards programmes, with tickets earned through play.
- Promotional freerolls tied to specific seasonal series or sponsorships.
- Satellite feeder freerolls that win tickets to qualifier rounds for larger Sunday tournaments.
What we will publish here after launch
Once Alberta-licensed rooms are running, this page will list the actual freerolls running each week, with start time, format, and any qualifying conditions. We will not invent freeroll listings before that.
