Regulated vs Unregulated Poker Sites in Alberta

Alberta's regulated online poker market exists alongside offshore sites that operate without AGLC registration. Here is why the distinction matters for players.

The Regulatory Position

AGLC has stated that any "marketing affiliates" advertising for the Alberta market must not also advertise gaming sites that operate in Alberta without AGLC registration. This site follows that principle. We cover only the six regulated poker rooms.

What Regulated Means for Players

• Dispute resolution: AGLC provides a dispute escalation path for players who cannot resolve issues directly with an operator.
• Responsible gambling: All regulated operators must offer deposit limits, self-exclusion tools, and responsible gambling resources.
• Fund protection: Regulated operators must meet AGLC's standards for player fund segregation.
• Advertising standards: AGLC's marketing standards and Ad Standards' administration of the Canadian Gaming Association's Code for Responsible Gaming Advertising (effective January 1, 2026) provide additional consumer protections.
